Did you know that February is Love Your Library Month? Libraries across the country participate every year to highlight all of the wonderful items, programs and services the library has to offer. Gunn Memorial Library and Museum will be celebrating on Saturday, February 11 with an array of programs for library lovers of all ages!
Kids ages 10-12 can join Ms. Ashley in the Junior Library from 11am-12pm to play a game of “Kids Create Absurdity.” This fun and unpredictable card game is full of crazy questions and hilarious answers. Some cards even include singing, doing impressions, telling stories or creating your own silly combinations. Complete the Library Scavenger Hunt with the whole family or bring a friend and see just how fun spending time at the library can be!
At 1pm, Ms. Linda will have a variety of games and crafts for little ones. Create a jar of candy hearts, a flamingo pencil topper, or an actual love monster. There will be plenty of pink, red, glitter, and lace to make your creations extra special! If you complete the scavenger hunt you’ll win a special Valentine’s Day treat.
Gunn Library and the Hickory Stick Bookshop have teamed up for our Readopoly Reading Challenge which runs through the end of March. Come share which books you are reading and get recommendations for the remaining challenges! Join Librarians Audra MacLaren and Jessica Zaccagnini for hot cocoa and a book talk on great reads you can use to complete the 2023 Winter Reading Challenge!
While you are here visit the Gunn Museum’s exhibition Washington, Connecticut – An American Story and learn about your community; its history and people. Join the museum curator, Amy Campanaro between 10-2 for tours or just to talk history!

The Gunn Library and Museum’s History Book Club will meet on Monday February 13 at 1:00pm in the Library’s Field Room, we will be reading Nathaniel Philbricks’ Mayflower: Voyage, Community, War.
History Book Club is a new program of the Gunn Library and Museum meeting on the second Monday of the month at 1:00pm in the Field Room at the Gunn Memorial Library. Participants will read nonfiction books on American history and meet to discuss. Museum Curator Amy Campanaro will facilitate the discussion and place historical topics in local context when appropriate. Copies of this book are available at the front desk of the library. Registration for the meeting is requested.
A description of the book from www.nathanielphilbrick.com: “From the perilous ocean crossing to the shared bounty of the first Thanksgiving, the Pilgrim settlement of New England has become enshrined as our most sacred national myth. Yet, as bestselling author Nathaniel Philbrick reveals in his spellbinding new book, the true story of the Pilgrims is much more than the well-known tale of piety and sacrifice; it is a fifty-five-year epic that is at once tragic, heroic, exhilarating, and profound.”
