Byrde + the b is pleased to announce the exhibit of recent paintings of Jennifer Sabella
Jennifer has honed her artistic style across years of experimentation with color, pigment, materials and structure. She is an abstract artist and colorist, most focused on color and texture, and the story they reveal. The exhibit will be on display from May 5th – August 6th, 2022. The opening reception will be held on Saturday, May 7th from 5:00-6:30pm.
Among Jennifer’s signature works are her vibrant “drips” or color streams, which in a gravity-driven process integrate line after line, layer after layer of different hues into evocative striped canvases that are rich, vibrant and undeniably textural. This same commanding play of color and texture evolves dramatically in her abstract landscapes and mosaic creations as well. Always drawing the viewer into a world of surprising world of light, color, texture and unexpected elements.

Byrde the is pleased to announce an exhibition of paintings by the contemporary abstract artist and master colorist Steven Miller. Please join us on Saturday, June 11, 2022 from 4-6pm to celebrate Miller’s opening exhibition.
Mr. Miller works in oils on canvas in combination with images inspired by nature. He works in a series of paintings, usually working on from three to four at a time. He states that “These works still hold a strong fascination for me and continue to provide me with boundless inspiration. The work I produce is all about color, form and simplicity”. Life quite simply as a force of nature captured on canvas.
Steven Miller has exhibited his work across the United States from New York to Los Angeles, and in Europe from London to Cologne. He is a Vinalhaven Fellow, a Rubenstein Scholar, and a Parsons School of Design Scholar. His work has been featured in “Sex in the City” and on the tv sitcom “Frasier” and in major Hollywood films.
Mr. Miller’s work is in many private and public collections in the United States, Europe and Asia. His work has been added to the permanent collections of the University of Virginia’s Bayly Art Museum and the Savannah College of Art & Design Museum in Georgia.

Byrde + the b is pleased to announce Faith Vicinanza “Color Meditations” an exhibit of mandala paintings opening Saturday July 17, 2021 from 5-7pm. The exhibition runs through Saturday, September 4, 2021.
Her painting takes time, is very meditative and focused. The defining criterion for a dot painting is the technique itself — repeated imprints of a paint covered brush, dotting stick or other implement onto the painting surface and in doing so, there are recognizable ‘dot’ marks on the painting surface. Pointillism, which leans more to being abstract than to having the discipline of a modern dot painting, is a technique of painting in which small, distinct dots of color are applied in patterns to form an image. Georges Seurat and Paul Signac developed the technique in 1886, branching from Impressionism. Dot painting, however, seeks a level of perfection and precision in the dots that is not inherent in pointillism.
The word mandala comes from Sanskrit, an ancient Indian language. Literally, mandala means “circle.” The circle is seen as a magical form, without beginning and end, just as the universe is believed to have no end. Ms. Vicinanza’s work is sometimes driven by or centered on or informed by the idea of a mandala though not strictly. In her often over-committed life, dot painting has become a way to stop, sit, clear her mind, be with the paint, the patterns, allowing her pieces to emerge organically and rarely does she have a set idea of where the painting will go. This approach produces unique, one-of-a-kind works that are distinct and drenched in color.
Her mantra “Slow down, enjoy the moment” is also her artist statement. Put another way, there is only this moment, watch it unfold, watch the painting unfold, the rain, the new grass, enjoy mixing colors, or a walk in the early hours of a new day. Take your time with her painting, look closely, enjoy the moment.

Byrde + the b is pleased to announce an exhibition of recent abstract paintings by Karen Pepper. This exhibit will run through November 30, 2021.
Karen Pepper follows in a long tradition of American Abstract Expressionist painters from Cy Twombly, Joan Mitchell and Willem de Kooning where marks and gestures develop a complex and mysterious world crying out to be discovered. Her masterful use of color and texture speak with a strong voice and the results are sublime compositions that invite deep contemplation.
“As a painter, I have always enjoyed the use of color and movement on my canvases to create a composition that is visually exciting for the viewer. My process starts by selecting a bright color to cover the canvas and then make either long or short sweeping marks with oil pastel or pencil. I don’t always work on the canvas immediately after this preparation but prefer to live with the canvas over time to discover areas created by the marks that I would like to enhance. Once I start applying paint I like to scrape it away so that my original marks and color sneak out from the heavier top layer of oil paint. I also throw sand on the canvas for texture and sometimes enamel paint for its fluidity which creates the movement I try to capture.”
