Event Details
The Owl Wine & Food Bar in collaboration with Pride In The Hills will host their annual New Preston Pride Party Sunday, June 11, 2023 from 2p-6p.
Come and celebrate Gay Pride on our fabulous patio overlooking the village of New Preston while Pride in the Hills showcases their silent auction items in our garden. Proceeds from the auction support the Pride in the Hills Fund aiming to improve the lives of LGBQT people in Greater Waterbury and the Litchfield Hills.
The town truly comes alive on this day with people from all over Connecticut and New York coming to celebrate Pride Month. As in years past, we will have wine, craft beer, and cocktails flowing. We will also be serving our famously delicious, crafted pizzas as a gift for coming out and celebrating with us! This year we have special guest DJ, Waly Verdun from NYC spinning his hot beats as well as night personality Markus Kelle serving “lewks” and working the crowd with her effervescent wit and charm.
The Owl has been hosting New Preston Pride since 2018 with a pause due to Covid in 2020 and 2021. It was with great “pride” we were able to do it again last year and receive such a phenomenal response. This year will be bigger and better than ever! No tickets are necessary. Just pay as you go. Please come and help celebrate our queer brothers and sister at New Preston’s favorite neighborhood spot where ALL are welcome!

Event Details
Byrde + the b is pleased to announce Faith Vicinanza “Color Meditations” an exhibit of mandala paintings opening Saturday July 17, 2021 from 5-7pm. The exhibition runs through Saturday, September 4, 2021.
Her painting takes time, is very meditative and focused. The defining criterion for a dot painting is the technique itself — repeated imprints of a paint covered brush, dotting stick or other implement onto the painting surface and in doing so, there are recognizable ‘dot’ marks on the painting surface. Pointillism, which leans more to being abstract than to having the discipline of a modern dot painting, is a technique of painting in which small, distinct dots of color are applied in patterns to form an image. Georges Seurat and Paul Signac developed the technique in 1886, branching from Impressionism. Dot painting, however, seeks a level of perfection and precision in the dots that is not inherent in pointillism.
The word mandala comes from Sanskrit, an ancient Indian language. Literally, mandala means “circle.” The circle is seen as a magical form, without beginning and end, just as the universe is believed to have no end. Ms. Vicinanza’s work is sometimes driven by or centered on or informed by the idea of a mandala though not strictly. In her often over-committed life, dot painting has become a way to stop, sit, clear her mind, be with the paint, the patterns, allowing her pieces to emerge organically and rarely does she have a set idea of where the painting will go. This approach produces unique, one-of-a-kind works that are distinct and drenched in color.
Her mantra “Slow down, enjoy the moment” is also her artist statement. Put another way, there is only this moment, watch it unfold, watch the painting unfold, the rain, the new grass, enjoy mixing colors, or a walk in the early hours of a new day. Take your time with her painting, look closely, enjoy the moment.

Alicia Mordenti & Erika Larskaya’s latest works will be on display from August 27th through October 1st, 2022.
Byrde + the b is pleased to announce the exhibit of recent landscape paintings of Alicia Mordenti and abstract paintings by Erika Larskaya.
Alicia is a Litchfield County resident who has absorbed the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape and distilled her reflections on oils on canvas. Her views are intimate and on a human scale. Alicia has honed her artistic style across years of experimentation with color, pigment, materials and structure. She is an American naturalist.
Erika Larskaya uses acrylic paint to construct unplanned works which she surrenders to the act and flow of painting, allowing the process to dictate the direction of each work up to its completion. Erika is originally from St. Petersburg, Russia. She seeks to express things that are not seen, but rather felt.
Please join us on Saturday, August 27th from 5-6:30pm for an artist’s reception.

Byrde + the b is pleased to announce an exhibition of recent abstract paintings by Karen Pepper. This exhibit will run through November 30, 2021.
Karen Pepper follows in a long tradition of American Abstract Expressionist painters from Cy Twombly, Joan Mitchell and Willem de Kooning where marks and gestures develop a complex and mysterious world crying out to be discovered. Her masterful use of color and texture speak with a strong voice and the results are sublime compositions that invite deep contemplation.
“As a painter, I have always enjoyed the use of color and movement on my canvases to create a composition that is visually exciting for the viewer. My process starts by selecting a bright color to cover the canvas and then make either long or short sweeping marks with oil pastel or pencil. I don’t always work on the canvas immediately after this preparation but prefer to live with the canvas over time to discover areas created by the marks that I would like to enhance. Once I start applying paint I like to scrape it away so that my original marks and color sneak out from the heavier top layer of oil paint. I also throw sand on the canvas for texture and sometimes enamel paint for its fluidity which creates the movement I try to capture.”
