Conservatives’ 30-year mission to restructure the courts in their own image is culminating with a series of cases that is reshaping the country. Case by case, the Supreme Court is rewriting the rules that have long structured the way we live, how we are governed, how we worship, even who we are.

Immigration. Health Care. Political representation. Reproductive and religious rights. . . It’s hard to find any aspect of daily life beyond the reach of the court’s long tentacles.

The July 21 Conversations On The Green will explore the courts’ new direction and what it means for the way we live and for the country with three of the most celebrated court watchers, Jeffrey Toobin, Linda Greenhouse and Joan Biskupic.

Jeffrey Toobin, a longtime staff writer at The New Yorker and senior analyst for CNN, is the author of “The Oath: The Obama White House and the Supreme Court”, and “The Nine: Inside the Secret World of the Supreme Court.” A noted lecturer, he also has written other critically acclaimed, best-selling books, including “A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal that Nearly Brought Down a President”; “The Run of His Life: The People v. O.J. Simpson”; and “Too Close to Call: The 36-Day Battle to Decide the 2000 Election”. Previously Toobin served as an assistant U.S. attorney in Brooklyn and as an associate counsel in the Office of Independent Counsel Lawrence E. Walsh”.

The 1998 Pulitzer Prize winner for her coverage of the court, Linda Greenhouse currently is Joseph Goldstein Lecturer in Law and Knight Distinguished Journalist in Residence at Yale Law School and writes a biweekly opinion column for The Times. A graduate of Yale Law School, she was the paper’s court correspondent for nearly 30 and is the author of numerous books, including “Becoming Justice Blackmun,” a biography of the justice; “Before Roe v. Wade: Voices That Shaped the Abortion Debate Before the Supreme Court’s Ruling” (with Reva B. Siegel); “The U.S. Supreme Court: A Very Short Introduction;” and “The Burger Court and the Rise of the Judicial Right (with Michael Graetz.)

Joan Biskupic has covered the Supreme Court for more than twenty years and is now a senior CNN legal analyst. The author of several books on the judiciary, her most recent is “The Chief: The Life and Turbulent Times of Chief Justice John Roberts”, the first biography of the chief justice. Her earlier works include “Breaking In: The Rise of Sonia Sotomayor and the Politics of Justice,” “American Original: The Life and Constitution of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia”; and “Sandra Day O’Connor: How the First Woman on the Supreme Court Became its Most Influential Justice”. Before joining CNN, she was the Supreme Court reporter for Reuters, The Washington Post and for USA Today.
