Independent Bookstore Day

The Hickory Stick Bookshop is happy to announce our participation in the 10th Anniversary of Independent Bookstore Day!

This year The Hickory Stick Bookshop will have exclusive IBD merchandise for sale, lots of prize giveaways, a “guess the shredded book” competition, blind date with a book, and celebratory mimosas for customers. We’ll also have a special hidden Golden Ticket – if you find it a big prize awaits! We are part of the Connecticut IBD Passport program which encourages people to visit all participating indie bookstores in CT over the course of the weekend to win huge prizes.

We will also be hosting two authors for book signings in the afternoon:

• Ann Leary will be here at 1.00 pm signing copies of “The Foundling”, now out in paperback. It’s the story of two friends, raised in the same orphanage, whose loyalty is put to the ultimate test when they meet years later at an institution—based on a shocking and little-known piece of American history.
• Ralph White will be here at 3.00 pm signing his new book “Getting Out of Saigon”, the gripping and remarkable true story of the author’s desperate effort to save the entire staff of the Saigon branch of Chase Manhattan bank and their families before the city fell to the North Vietnamese Army…captivating!

Independent Bookstore Day (IBD) was established in 2013 to promote, celebrate, and highlight the value of the independent bookstore community. The day has been observed on the last Saturday of April every year since 2013. This year there are over 900 stores participating across the country.

Independent Bookstore Day is organized by the American Booksellers Association, a national not-for-profit trade organization, that works with booksellers and industry partners to ensure the success and profitability of independently owned book retailers, and to assist in expanding the community of the book.

Come and Celebrate 10 Years of Independent Bookstore Day! We’ll be celebrating from 9.30 to 5.00, and really hope you’ll be able to come on down and join in the fun!
