What sets the Washington Art Association’s Annual Holiday Sale apart from others is not only the exquisitely hand crafted gifts by local artisans, but a talented group of volunteers designers and artists source and curate unique objects and transform the galleries into a magical shopping experience.
This year is no exception. Event co-chairs, artist, Maryellen Furse and interior designer, Bruce Glickman are planning another unique marketplace based on “hygee” (pronounced hue-guh not hoo-gah), a Danish word used when acknowledging a feeling or moment, whether alone or with friends, at home or out, ordinary or extraordinary as cozy, charming or special.
Inspired by the clean lines and simple forms of Scandinavian design, Bruce and Maryellen have used objects that feature warmth, simplicity, harmony, light and nature.
