Event Details
Girls of color explore contemporary Black American theater and practice the craft of physical storytelling in these active, engaging summer sessions. The works of Black playwrights like August Wilson, Dominique Morisseu, Barry Jenkins, Lynn Nottage, Katori Hall, and others are studied and provide a framework for identifying how theater is used as a vehicle for cross-cultural connection, social action, and collective healing.
Participants practice movement, voice, and speech exercises, and combine what they learn to discover how to take the principles of connection, action and healing beyond the black box doors into their everyday lives. The course culminates in a final production which is open to the public.
