Event Details

Washington Conservation Commission will present “What’s Happening in New Preston”. This event will be Thursday, May 30, 2019 @ 6:30pm at Gunn Memorial Library in Washington, CT.

The Washington Conservation Commission has been busy. Come hear an update on work they have been doing.

New Preston Open Space, the former Moore property, is located on the left off Route 202 just north of the light in New Preston center. Foot paths make it easy to explore and 34 species of birds were identified by the Audubon Society. Come to see some lovely photos of the area.

New Preston Falls is a hidden gem that we are polishing up. We are working with the Town to assure the grass is mowed and there is improved access to the property. Dirk Sabin, a CC member, will talk briefly about the property’s geological history. A brief history of the many mills along the River will be given by Steve Solley. Photos of the site will introduce program attendees to this fascinating town property.

An update of the Commission’s participation in the Western Connecticut Clean Air Action group will also be presented. Maps and photos will help show how close The Cricket Valley Power Plant in Dover Plains, NY is in proximity to Washington, CT.

This program is free and open to the public but registration is requested.
