Visit Gardens in Bloom

As you drive into town, keep an eye out for colorful blooms throughout our five villages. Visit The Po Cafe for a cup of coffee and enjoy the peaceful ambiance of the Washington Green. Or head over to get breakfast at Marty’s Cafe and take a stroll across the street to Judy Black Memorial Park and Gardens, where you’ll find a variety of flowers in bloom. From there, you can also enjoy the views at the Riverwalk along the Shepaug River.

While you’re in town, make sure to visit Hollister House Garden for a magnificent springtime experience. Hollister House Garden is an American interpretation of classic English gardens, featuring a winding brook, blooming pathways, garden walls and hedges, exuberant plantings, and delightful vistas. This year, Hollister House Garden opens for the season on Friday, April 19th.

Explore Nature Trails & Scenic Views

With fresh air and warmer temperatures, spring is the perfect time for a scenic hike. Explore Steep Rock Association’s breathtaking preserve trails to catch a beautiful panoramic view of Lake Waramaug and the surrounding landscapes. If you’re not much of a hiker, you can explore the state parks in the area and enjoy a picnic by the shore at Lake Waramaug State Park or marvel in the serenity of New Preston Falls. There are many great outdoor adventures just waiting for you in Washington!

Get a Taste of Farm Fresh Bounty

If you’re in Washington on a weekend, make sure to visit Judy Black Memorial Park and Gardens for a variety of fresh produce, freshly baked goods and breads, and organic products from local vendors, and more at Washington’s Farmers Market. This year, the Farmers Market will be open beginning Saturday, May 25th, 2024.

You can also visit The Smithy Market for a selection of locally grown meat, produce, dairy, eggs, and flowers in a beautifully restored blacksmith shop. Or stop by the local farm stand at Waldingfield Farm for a genuine country experience.

Find Inspiration at the Galleries

The saying “April showers bring May flowers” definitely holds true in New England. So if you find yourself in Washington on a rainy day, there’s still plenty of beauty to see! Get inspired with the beautiful works of local artists at the Washington Art Association, or view the latest exhibits on display at Judy Black Memorial Park and Gardens, the Hen’s Nest, and Eckert Fine Art Gallery + Consulting. Or tune in for a creative workshop at Hollister House Garden or take an art class with the talented artists at the Washington Art Association.

To experience one of the best coffee spots in New England, make sure to visit The Po Cafe on the historic Washington Green. In Washington Depot, Marty’s Cafe and The Pantry are the spots to go for a delicious breakfast or lunch. Over in New Preston Village, visit The Smithy Cafe for a range of delicious breakfast and lunch options made with locally sourced ingredients.
