Event Details

An integral feature of this museum is our replicated Algonkian village and Three Sisters garden, which resembles a Native American community of the Eastern Woodlands from as early as 1000 years ago – and it’s all NEW again. First constructed in 1980 using traditional tools and techniques, the village is used as a classroom for field trips and summer camp, as well as a setting for a multitude of events throughout the year. As one of the more memorable aspects of our museum, it helps to teach thousands of individuals annually about the construction, material usage, and lifeways of the communities in Southern New England before European contact. Join Jeff and Griffin Kalin of Primitive Technologies, along with IAIS museum staff, for a ceremony and program about the revitalization and construction process of this unique outdoor exhibit. This event will also be used to honor and thank all those who donated materials, funds, and time towards the completion of this project.
