The Gunn Memorial Library & Museum is pleased to welcome authors Bill Liska and Kim Perlotto to discuss their book The Eighth Connecticut Volunteer Infantry in the Civil War. In their 2022 book, authors Liska and Perlotto draw on soldiers’ letters and diaries, this first-ever history of the Eighth Infantry chronicles four years of combat service, with maps newly created from historical accounts. This event will take place at the American Legion Hall in Washington Depot.
Please register in advance on the library’s website at www.gunnlibrary.org/programs.
The Eighth Connecticut Infantry was one of the longest-serving Union volunteer regiments in the Civil War and saw action throughout the Eastern Theater, from Burnside’s expedition in North Carolina to the battles at Antietam, Fredericksburg, Cold Harbor and Petersburg, and campaigns throughout Virginia. Liska and Perlotto’s book astutely details the infantry’s wartime experience and honors the combat service of those who served in the Eighth Infantry thereby preserving their story and sacrifice.
Copies of the book will be available for purchase and signing courtesy of the authors.
