Join Rachel Vail, award winning author of over 40 books for kids and teens, for a book signing of her newest picture book, SOMETIMES I GRUMBLESQUINCH, at the Hickory Stick Bookshop in Washington, CT on Saturday, August 20th at 3 PM.
Katie Honors is a really nice kid. But there’s one little secret that sometimes doesn’t make her nice: her little brother, Chuck. Chuck is messy and icky and gross. Chuck sometimes makes Katie secretly wish she had a trampoline or a treehouse or a giraffe instead of a brother. But when all these emotions bubble up to the surface, Katie can no longer grumblesquinch them down. She explodes, but she also learns an important lesson: that there’s room for ALL of her feelings, even the scary ones.
This story explores key social emotional skills that kids need to navigate complicated feelings. Rachel Vail taps into universal childhood experiences that are often left unexplored, and does so with sensitivity, humor, and respect for the wide range of emotions kids face today.
Rachel lives in Litchfield County, Connecticut and New York City with her husband, their two sons, and a tortoise named Lightning. Her picture books include PIGGY BUNNY and SOMETIMES I’M BOMBALOO. Her novels for teens, tweens, and kids also include WELL, THAT WAS AWKWARD, UNFRIENDED, her new chapter book series, A IS FOR ELIZABETH, and the JUSTIN CASE trilogy.
