This “master class” on dahlias is taught by potter and passionate gardener Frances Palmer. The illustrated talk will begin with the origin, history and botany of dahlia flower forms. Frances will teach us how to divide, plant, fertilize and stake spring tubers, how to maintain plants over the growing season and how to dig and store for the winter. She will share good sources for tubers and how to best select flowers. Finally Frances will demonstrate how to cut and compose flower arrangements like the stunning ones on her Instagram feed.
Frances Palmer was trained as an art historian. After moving to Connecticut with her young family she took some throwing courses at a nearby art guild and has worked as a potter ever since. When she is not busy at her wheel she is in her magical garden where she grows all the flowers she arranges in her pots.
