Event Details

What better way to spend a summer day than a hike and picnic in the great outdoors with friends and neighbors.  On Thursday, August 23 10am – 12pm, senior citizens can enjoy exactly that on the peaceful Steep Rock Preserve in Washington.  Back by popular demand and with in the senior community, Steep Rock Association (SRA) staff will lead a short and leisurely guided hike to a historic area, followed by a light picnic lunch (provided).  Bisecting the pine-crowned hills, the gently rising woodland trail provides walkers the occasional view of the equestrian riding on this 3/4 mile roundtrip walk.  Observe the unique ruins of the Holiday House, a hotel which once offered respite for female factory workers from New York City at the turn of the 20th century.

Meet at Steep Rock Preserve’s main parking area at 2 Tunnel Road, Washington Depot, CT.  Please make arrangements with one’s own town senior center if transportation to the Preserve is needed.  SRA will have it’s ATV available on site to assist those who have difficulty walking over uneven terrain.

Registration is required and donations are gratefully accepted.  Please register online or call the office at 860-868-9131 Monday – Friday, 8am – 4pm.
