Washington Friends of Music Summer Concert Festival 2024

Washington Friends of Music Summer Concert Festival 2024 will be held on Fridays at 5:30pm on August 16th, 23rd, 30th and September 6th! A variety of compositions and composers will be presented by up to nine superb musicians who perform solo and in leading orchestras in the US and abroad.

Concert # 1 on Aug 16: Mozart Quintet No. 1; Schubert Octet
Concert # 2 on Aug 23: Bach Concerto for Strings; Mozart Horn Quintet; Dvorak Sextet
Concert # 3 on Aug 30: Mozart, Villa Lobos, Ibert, and Piazzolla with Violin, Classical Guitar, and Flute
Concert # 4 on Sep 6: Tchaikovsky Souvenir de Florence; Mendelssohn String Octet

WFM Artistic Director and cellist Wendy Sutter has been heralded as “one of the great leading cellists of the classical stage” by the Wall Street Journal. Ms. Sutter will appear with a stellar cast of musicians, incl. from the New York Philharmonic: Audrey Wright, Violin; Sofia Basile, Viola; Matthew Christakos, new Associate Principal Cello; and Mindy Kaufman, Flute – and from the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra: Xiao Dong Wang, Violin and Mark Romatz, Bassoon.

Major soloists such as the multi-award-winning Violinist, Carmit Zori and the internationally acclaimed Violist Brett Deubner are joined by John Paul Norpoth, Assistant Principal Double Bass with the Orlando Philharmonic in making their debut. Welcomed back will be Rupert Boyd, recognized as “one of the finest classical guitarists of his generation;” three-time Grammy-nominated clarinetist Todd Palmer; and Rachel Drehmann, versatile horn player of the horn quartet Genghis Barbie.

The audience is invited to mingle with the artists at a jovial post-concert reception with bubbly and snacks.
