Sea Story: A Puppet Show for All Ages
Washington Montessori School will present a marionette puppet show called “Sea Story” on Saturday, February 25th at 10:30 a.m. Tickets can be purchased ahead of time below or at the door for $10 each. (Children under 2 are free.) The morning will include a post-performance meet and greet with the puppeteer and an invitation for families to gather in our gymnasium for some unstructured playtime.
An original story written and performed by Charlotte Dore of Rosalita’s Puppets, “Sea Story” follows the adventures of Miranda the mermaid and the sea creatures she meets on her journey to save a pirate.
This will be the first puppet show Washington Montessori School will host since February 2020. Before then, WMS’s annual Puppetry Festival was a beloved Litchfield County event for families since 2007. “Young families have always looked forward to our annual puppet shows. It’s a great way to spend a cold, winter morning with young children,” said Jill Skilton, Director of Communications at Washington Montessori School. “We have really missed having them over the past couple years of Covid restrictions. We are excited to get things started again this year, and we are especially happy to have Charlotte back to perform. She is definitely a fan favorite.”
A seasoned actor as well as puppeteer, Ms. Dore charms audiences of all ages with an array of amusing accents, a lovely singing voice and a kind sense of humor. Her shows are interactive experiences where she engages with audience members as the story unfolds. After the performance, she invites children to come take a closer look at her handmade puppets and backdrops.
Charlotte founded Rosalita’s Puppets in 1993 while performing at King Richard’s Faire. Since then she has gone on to perform at many renaissance festivals and events all over New England with her interactive marionette shows.
Rosalita’s Puppets have been featured in the Boston Globe. They have performed for Somerville Art Beat, the Boston MDC, Boston ICA, Bridgewater 4th of July festival, Children’s First in NYC and Boston, Connecticut renaissance faire, Springfield Museum, the Syracuse Puppet and Mask Theatre. Ms. Dore was also a puppeteer on the movie “Zookeeper” with Kevin James, assisting Oscar winning special effects/animator Tom Woodruff and his team in bringing life to an animatronic gorilla.
